We are asked many times what to take or pack for a Disney Vacation and will normally will tell you about our “Must Buy” items. As a family who travels often, saving money is a must. Taking a quick trip to the Dollar store is a great idea. Even when traveling solo, we will go and purchase several things before leaving. If an item is not used, we know that they will be available to us.
GLOW STICKS & NECKLACES
If you’ve ever been to a theme park you know that buying those toys or glow sticks are expensive. Dollar Tree is a great place to start since you can normally get around 2-3 in each pack. If your child ends up losing the stick or necklace, you haven’t paid an arm & a leg for it.
PONCHOS
Anytime you visit Walt Disney World, there may be a chance of an afternoon storm. We know that buying the ponchos there in the parks are fun but they can be expensive too. We will often times find ponchos at the Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Big Lots and even Walmart. No need to worry about if your expensive one will rip while on your trip. We will normally purchase 3 for each person and they also come in handy for keeping that stroller dry too.
SANDWICH BAGS & GALLON SIZE BAGS
We will often keep plenty of gallon sized bags in our pack bag because of water rides or rain. Our phones, electronics, cameras, wallets and more go into a bag. For my DSLR cameras and vlogging camera, they go into one each. Our wallets, electronics and cameras will go into one. We also will put our vlogging accessories into one as well to keep them safe. The sandwich bags we put in our keys and phones so they are safe too. And if we find a snack our daughter likes, then we will use the sandwich bags for her snacks.
TISSUES & WIPES
This is something we always will have on hand with us. When you have kids, no matter how old they are, wipes will always be important. We sometimes need to wipe down a ride or wipe our daughters hands from eating something sticky. We also suggest bringing some Shout wipes with you as well because kids and adults can make messes too.
HAND SANITIZER
Before the pandemic even happened, we always had hand sanitizer with us. My husband is obsessed with making sure his hands are clean, so this is no exception. If you’d like to bring some lysol wipes or clorox wipes with you, that will work to clean surfaces. We’d like for you to enjoy your trip and not worry about getting sick.
SOUVENIRS
Yes, you can get quite a bit of things from the Dollar store that you can give to your kids. One thing that we did on a recent trip with family is have something for each kids every night. We wrote a little note from their favorite character and it made their day. We picked up little hand towels and little toys to give each child!
COLORING BOOKS & CRAYONS
One thing that we will always make sure we have with us is coloring books & crayons. This not only will help with the long car rides but also in your room. If you are staying in a Disney Vacation Club Resort, then you can take advantage of heading to the Community Hall for fun. They have many different things to do including coloring pages and more.
REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES
Getting the water bottles from the Dollar Tree is nothing to worry about. While you are in Florida, you will need to stay hydrated, so bringing a reusable water bottle works. If you have kids, let them pick out which water bottle they’d like, and so they will know its theirs. You can get free water at any quick service place and just add them to your bottle. Back in 2019, Disney did add refillable water stations in each park, so that will save you some money too.
TRAVEL SIZE MEDICATIONS
We will normally go and get a few things from the Dollar Tree to keep in our park bag. The typical items we pick up are pain relievers, allergy meds and kids medicines. I will also make a small first aid kit because with kids, you never know if you’ll need it. Pack in there some bandaids, Neosporin and a small ice pack. Bring with you to the park each day. If you do forget, there are first aid locations in each park you can utilize.
MESH LAUNDRY BAG
This is another big item that we will always get at the dollar store. We bring at least two mesh laundry bags to put our dirty clothes into. When we are packing to go home, we will pack up the dirty laundry in one bag. This is one way we keep the clean laundry separate from the dirty.
TOOTHBRUSHES
Having kids, you often know that someone in the family is going to leave their toothbrush at home. And then when they realize it, you’re already on the plane heading to Florida. Picking up a few toothbrushes can help as you can just toss them before heading home.
STRAWS
Straws have become a thing we must take with us. Our daughter has a sensory disorder and can only drink from plastic or reusable straws. Grabbing a box of straws from the dollar store is a must before we travel anywhere. So if you have kids who don’t like paper straws, then grabbing some before your trip is a must too.
GUM
Whether you are flying or driving down for your family vacation, having gum is a must. Gum is NOT sold inside the park or anywhere on site, so bringing your own works best. We do ask that you dispose of it properly in the trash can and not anywhere else on property.
